Since I was knocking on baby showers a couple of days ago, here's a little story about a cool gift from one...
Ben Avery, a friend from church, is a writer. I didn't realize how far he had progressed in his writing career, until I learned a while back that he was involved in a project with George R. R. Martin ("GRRM"), one of my favorite fantasy writers. Even better, Ben mentioned he was going to a comic conference in Indianapolis in early July, where none other than GRRM would be in attendance!
However, my excitement was short-lived. The conference was too near the time of Kate's due date for me to attend. In all the adjustments with the new baby, I had kind of forgotten about it. Then, Angela said I had received a gift at her baby shower this past Sunday. It was an autographed copy of Hedge Knight, Vol. 1 (Book Market Edition) coauthored by Ben Avery
and GRRM
!
It only had GRRM's autograph, so I need to get Ben to sign it now as well. I think he's just too humble to think I'd want his also... :)

Whoops! I completely forgot to sign it. I was so concerned about remembering to get him to sign it.
I'll have to give you a full report at church sometime about how the convention went. I got lectured on what makes a good pizza (according to George, it has to be coal fired, pizzas from a wood or, God forbid, gas oven just aren't pizzas) and some interesting advice about my writing career and I got to hear the latest draft of the prologue chapter to Dance with Dragons. It was pretty cool.
