When you think of Elkhart, maybe RVs or musical instruments come to mind (or less flattering images!) But, would you think of pizza? This town has a variety of authentic Italian restaurants dishing up great pizza. Recently, we've enjoyed a couple of our favorites - Antonio's and DaVinci's.
DaVinci's is closer to us, so we hit it most often. It's good for straight-ahead hearty pizza (terrific sauce). Antonio's also makes good traditional pizzas, but offers a little more variety. We recently sampled their Rosemary Pizza, which they describe as...
"Thin crust with rosemary cream sauce, sun-dried tomatos, cramini mushrooms, artichoke hearts, fontinella, feta, parmesan and mozzarella cheese with fresh basil. This pizza put us on the U.S. Pizza Team."
Yes, there really is a national pizza team, and yes, this local restaurateur actually traveled to Italy to compete in the world competition. There are many other terrific spots around town, such as Calabria, Columbo's, Luchese's, Mezza Luna, Milano's, etc.
We're always switching around trying these. Whenever we go outside the area, we whine and moan about eating "chain" pizza. Yep, we're spoiled!

Yes, you are spoiled...I definitely miss the authentic pizza I grew up on. There's one place we've found down here that comes close, but it's still not the same.
Next time you're in Chicago, go to Rush & Superior and try a Giordano's stuffed pizza.
It's good enough that my parents, who were in Chicago, flew out a half-baked Giordano's pizza when they visited the other day.
Good point on the Chicago-style pizza. I almost consider it a different food group, given the cheese underneath the sauce. For me it's one of those once in a while things, rather than something I could eat every week. While probably not in the class of a Giordano's, Giannetto's (http://www.100center.com/giannettos.html) is a local joint that's a fair proxy...
