Christmas cookies can be orange, too

One of my family's traditions is frosting cutout cookies on Christmas Eve. I say frosting because my mom does all the hard work -- she mixes, cuts out, and bakes the cookies in advance. The rest of us just show up and decorate that night. This year Kate got in on the fun, too.

Kate with her finished products. She liked the blue frosting, and didn't quite know how to spread it around, so she did what most 2 year olds do -- added more frosting (and LOTS of sprinkles)!

Kate with Aunt Cassie. You might be wondering about the sunglasses. Kate got those as a party favor from her friend Savannah's strawberry shortcake birthday party last summer. Sometimes she decides she wants to wear them. All night. Inside the house.

Me with my Dad, Mom, Kate and sister Cassie. We missed my sister Colleen and brother Kent, who were with their in-laws.

Part of the tradition is the colors (pinkish-red, blue, yellow and green) of the frosting, and the shapes (wreaths, trees, reindeer, and bells). Cassie is a stickler for tradition and we had an "argument" when I decided to make orange frosting.

This is what Colin did while we frosted cookies.

Although orange is not a traditional Christmas color I will conceded it was a lovely shade. :)
