I am glad to know it's not Ben Franklin's fault!

All this time I had been blaming Ben Franklin and Mitch Daniels, when it's really William Willets' fault (ok, and Mitch's fault too). I always thought Ben was too smart for that!

I'm sure most of you had heard, too, that Daylight Saving Time was originally proposed by Ben Franklin. But, according to Wikipedia (and several other more scholarly sources) he never actually proposed changing our clocks. While he was in France he wrote a piece after noticing the late-rising habits of the French: "Franklin's obvious satire proposed taxing shutters, rationing candles, and waking the public by ringing church bells and firing cannons at sunrise, in the spirit of his earlier proverb 'Early to bed and early to rise / Makes a man healthy, wealthy, and wise.'"

I will try to avoid ranting about how much I hate DST and just quote my new favorite website: "STANDARDTIME.COM SAYS: If we are saving energy let's go year round with Daylight Saving Time. If we are not saving energy let's drop Daylight Saving Time!"
